TRAVEL ITINERARY: 11 DAYS IN EASTERN SICILY
Sicily has a lot to offer with its pristine beaches and nature, millennial history, food and locals smiles. Here you can find our tips for an 11 days tour of the south-east Sicily, starting from Modica and Ortigia. Ready to go?
DAY 1 - Ortigia
Walk along the characteristic narrow alleys of the island's neighborhoods to the central square. You should visit the Ortigia market and have lunch at CASEIFICIO BORDERI OR DA FRATELLI BURGIO. Visit Castello Maniace and Fonte Aretusa. Sea view APERITIVO and SUNSET from LIDO ZEPHIRO. DINNER: we recommend you Carmelo's SCUOLA ALIMENTARE or one of the restaurants suggested in our guest book.
DAY 2 - Ortigia / Noto
BREAKFAST at Bar Viola in Via Roma or in Piazza Duomo with granita and brioche. Then a car or taxi to Noto, the best existing example of Baroque urban planning and construction. Enjoy "u passiu", the slow-paced walk along the main street of Noto, Corso Vittorio Emanuele. LUNCH stop in the wonderful AGRITURISMO ASSINARO immersed in a lemon grove and restored with love and taste by the kind owner Antonella. You can stop for a special aperitif at the Terrazza Gagliardi to enjoy an unparalleled view of the historic center. DINNER You could choose the Dammuso Restaurant or Only the Angels.
DAY 3 - S.Lorenzo / Marzamemi
We recommend leaving early from Ortigia STOP AT “Casa Rossa”, a standard stop before going to sea. Bring a packed lunch. Don't forget to buy their famous very tasty bread, the CUNZATU BREAD. SAN LORENZO BEACH. Just 15 km from Noto, San Lorenzo is a fascinating beach of fine sand and turquoise waters. Its sandy beaches allow children to enjoy the sea without any danger. 4.30 PM VISIT TO THE MARILINA WINERY and tasting of wines from native grapes, such as Nero d'Avola. It is very close to San Lorenzo: only 3 minutes away. 6.30 PM MARZAMEMI. Walk along the streets of the ancient fishing village towards the central square. The atmosphere is truly magical at sunset! Distance: very close to San Lorenzo: about 3 km. APERITIVO! Relax at Liccamuciula bar, sipping your drink and watching the people having fun in the main square of Marzamemi. 8.30 PM VISIT CAMPISI, A LOCAL PRODUCT DEALER. Campisi offers a wide range of local products to buy or just to taste. Try the Roman almond of Noto, the Pizzuta almond of Avola to find out which is the best. Don't forget to taste / buy Pachino's "Ciliegino" cherry tomatoes.
DAY 4 - Syracuse sea and history
NATURAL RESERVE OF PLEMMIRIO. A true paradise… Along 15 km of coastline, its waters show a wide variety of colors, from emerald green to turquoise blue, with a thousand shades. Then visit the Paolo Orsi museum, the Greek theater, the orecchio di Dionisio and the Latomie dei Cappuccini. Stop to buy arancini from MIDOLO, a bottle of wine at the winery in Via Roma and relax at home. Evening walk in Piazza Duomo, admire the temple of Athena and get involved by the street artists who enliven the summer evenings with shows and music.
DAY 5 - Book one of our tours

DAY 6 - Noto Mountain Area
Visit the EREMO DI SAN CORRADO FUORI LE MURA an 18th century sanctuary built next to the cave where San Corrado lived, the patron of Noto. CHEESE, PRESERVES AND 0 MILES PRODUCTS TASTING. Visit to the agro-food company of the young Concetto Scardaci, whose cheeses are produced from sheep's milk using traditional techniques. Try local cheeses, such as Primo Sale or Pecorino. Visit to CASTELLUCCIO. Settlement of the oldest prehistoric Sicilian population (2000 BC) Castelluccio is a place where silence and magical charm embrace you. Visit to the CAVAGRANDE DEL CASSIBILE NATURE RESERVE. Cavagrande is a large natural reserve that surrounds the canyon formed by the Cassibile river. The Canyon is about 10km long and has steep rock faces.
DAY 7 - Sea and Relax
There is a lot to see but it is better to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. You can go to Fontane Bianche if you prefer a LIDO, to Ognina if you like calm and relaxation and if you love rocks. At Arenella if you are looking for one and the other. You can bring a packed lunch or stop in a shop for a sandwich or in a LIDO for a good fish dish.
GIORNO 8 – Palazzolo Acreide / Buscemi / Buccheri
PALAZZOLO ACREIDE. Visit the historical center and the Greek theater of Akrai, the remains of the city of the Greek age. Take a break at the "CORSINO" pastry shop or the "CAPRICE" pastry shop. Stop at the restaurant "DA ANDREA, SAPORI MONTANI". You should try some dishes with the Palazzolo black truffle. BUSCEMI and BUCCHERI. Visit to the historical centers of these two villages. You can learn a lot about ancient rural life at the small museums of peasant civilization. Distance from Buscemi to Buccheri: 9 km. 5 PM VISIT to the TERRALIVA farmhouse. Located 6 km from Buccheri, the Terraliva company biologically produces an intense and fruity oil. Taste their oil, recently awarded the "best oil"
DAY 9 - Moving to Modica
10.30 AM CHECK-OUT and last stroll around Ortigia 2PM CHECK-IN IN MODICA APARTMENT LUNCH in one of the many trattorie WALK in the historical center. You should try the typical chocolate at the "Modica Chocolate Museum" or in one of the many chocolate shops in the city such as BONAJUTO. Visit to the Cathedral of San Giorgio and Stop nearby for an APERITIVO overlooking the city DINNER at Osteria dei sapori perduti or at AL COLONNELLO
Day 10 – Ragusa / Sampieri / Scicli
8.30 am RAGUSA IBLA. Visit to the historical center. You should visit the Basilica of San Giorgio, the Iblei Gardens, the Church of Maria delle Scale.
13:00 LUNCH. If you choose “I BANCHI”, don't forget to try the typical focaccias of this area!
15:00 SCICLI. Visit of the historical center. For some variation, you might want to pop into the QUAM modern art gallery, in its beautiful space with high vaulted ceilings.
17.00SAMPIERI AND CAVA D’ALIGA. Sampieri is a picturesque old fishing village, whose stone houses attached to each other border a labyrinth of narrow streets. In Cava d’Aliga, you can find golden sand beaches, interspersed with cliffs. DINNER in the countryside at AGRITURISMO COLLE DEL SOLE
DAY 11 – Carratois /Mare/Portopalo
CARRATOIS BEACH A beautiful and unspoiled beach formed by dunes 5 PM ISOLA DELLE CORRENTI The island of currents is located on the extreme tip of Sicily and Europe, where you can see the meeting of the opposite currents of the Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. A short walk (1 km) from the Isola delle Correnti on Carratois beach with white and soft dunes in the background and you can witness a magical sunset. Return to Modica for dinner, relaxing evening and get ready for the next stop!
